Ep427: Turning Setbacks into Comebacks with Media Personality, Life Coach and Entrepreneur Honey German

For most of her twenties, Honey was a civil litigation paralegal by day, and a celebrity news blogger by passion. In a law firm conference room, she began posting “Honey’s Gossip Drips” on Twitter, covering celebrity news, pop culture, and entertainment gossip. What started as a side hustle quickly snowballed into something bigger.

“I knew I had to end up in media somehow,” she recalls. “I didn’t need a website, I just needed a start.” That start opened doors. One tweet led to another, and before long, Honey was approached to bring her digital persona to the airwaves. She transitioned from blogger to radio personality, and soon after, celebrity correspondent on both radio and television, interviewing A-listers like Cardi B, John Leguizamo, and Megan Thee Stallion.

You Are Not Your Job: Redefining Identity in a Noisy World

A common thread in Honey’s life is refusing to let labels limit her. As a first-generation American deeply connected to her Dominican roots, Honey speaks to the duality many immigrants and children of immigrants face. “I always say I’m Dominican, even though I was born here. That’s my essence.”

But while her culture is core, her occupation is not her identity. As a life coach, Honey works with clients who conflate their work with their worth. “When they lose the job, they feel like they’ve lost themselves. I tell them: you are more than your title.” Her advice: explore your layers, so if one aspect of your life changes, you don’t unravel with it.

Rebuilding After Rock Bottom: Honey’s Stroke Survival Story

In early 2020, Honey hit what she thought was the peak of her career. Then, the unthinkable: a massive stroke, ICU stay, and brain surgery. Her left side became immobilized. She had to relearn to walk, talk, and reclaim her body.

“I was depressed, anxious, sometimes suicidal. I thought it was over,” she shares. Doctors told her she might never walk again. She refused to accept that. “They don’t know me,” she said, determined to prove every prognosis wrong. Five years later, Honey is not only walking—she’s thriving. Interviews, red carpets, podcast episodes, and coaching sessions continue, now with a mission deeper than media: survival and advocacy.

Her partnership with the American Heart Association amplifies awareness for stroke prevention and heart disease, especially among Hispanic women. Sharing her story, she hopes, will save others.

Dreams Aren’t Given, They’re Built

For Honey, the road to purpose is incremental, not instant. “People think dreams explode overnight. No, you build them, brick by brick. Then one day, you wake up and realize: I’m living it.” Her philosophy blends accountability with self-compassion.

Her coaching mantra: “Everyone already knows what they need to do. They just need to own it and act.” She offers clients practical frameworks but encourages self-led action. “Make a list. Do what you need to do. Hold yourself accountable. You don’t need me holding your hand—unless you want to.”

Creating Space for Spanglish Voices

Noticing the absence of Latino-centric media at iHeartRadio, Honey launched Gracias, Come Again to fill the void. The show celebrates Latino artists, creators, and change-makers in both English and Spanish.

“All voices deserve to be heard and given their flowers while alive,” she says. “Whether you’re Puerto Rican, Dominican, Colombian—we bridge those gaps. I speak to everyone: young, old, rich, poor. What unites us is our culture.”

Gracias, Come Again now features actors, musicians, and influencers, highlighting Latino excellence and inspiring listeners to embrace their heritage without apology.

If You’re Still Breathing, It’s Not Over

When asked about the most powerful lesson from her journey, Honey doesn’t hesitate. “No problem is too big. If you’re alive, breathing, and here—you can get through it.” Her story is proof that starting over isn’t failure; it’s experience repurposed.

“You’re not starting from scratch,” she says. “You’re starting from experience. And with that, you can build anything.”
